How to Fix Zoom Camera Not Working — 6 Steps

  1. Close other apps using your cameraOnly one app can use the camera at a time. Quit Microsoft Teams, Skype, Google Meet, OBS, Snap Camera and any browser tabs showing your webcam. Then reopen Zoom.
  2. Give Zoom permission to use your cameraOn macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → enable Zoom. On Windows 11: Settings → Privacy & security → Camera → turn on camera access and allow Zoom. Restart Zoom after changing.
  3. Select the correct camera inside ZoomIn Zoom click Settings (gear icon) → Video. Use the Camera dropdown and pick your actual webcam. External USB cameras may disappear if the cable is loose — reconnect and refresh the list.
  4. Turn your camera on in the meetingThe video button in the Zoom toolbar may be off with a red slash. Click Start Video. If it shows a black screen, click the ^ next to the video button and pick your camera again.
  5. Update Zoom and your camera driversIn Zoom: profile icon → Check for Updates. On Windows: Device Manager → Cameras → right-click → Update driver. On macOS: System Settings → General → Software Update. A full restart after update is recommended.
  6. Try the Zoom web client as a fallbackIf the desktop app refuses to connect to the camera, open the meeting link in Chrome or Edge and click 'Join from Your Browser'. The web client uses browser permissions you can verify with our test above.
